Full
mortality and theft.
Protect your investment of money and time by purchasing
a full mortality and theft policy for your horse. This
policy provides coverage in the event that the horse
dies or is humanely destroyed due to an accident, sickness
or disease. The policy also covers theft. Insured values
are determined by purchase price and show, breeding
or race records. An application must completed and submitted
for underwriting review and approval. Horses valued
at $50,000 or less are accepted with a statement of
health from the owner. A veterinary certificate
is required for horses valued over $50,000 and for horses
which have a previous history of sickness, illness or
lameness.
Major
Medical Major
medical coverage is designed to help the horse owner
pay for veterinary bills resulting from accidents, injuries
and illnesses the horse may contract. It is available
as an endorsement (addition) to the full mortality and
theft policy and cannot be purchased by itself. This
coverage provides up to $7,500 per horse per year for
any condition other than routine care requiring veterinary
treatment, including surgery. Examples of conditions
covered by major medical are colic, EPM, laminitis/founder,
viruses, and lameness. The premium is $250 per
year per horse and a $250 deductible applies to each
new condition requiring veterinary care. There are certain
exclusions which apply, including but not limited to
any and all treatments of Adequan, Legend and other
corticosteroids, whether for therapeutic purposes or
not. Racehorses, and horses which are under 30
days or over 15 years old are not eligible for major
medical coverage.
Surgical
coverage Surgical
coverage is available as an endorsement to the full
mortality and theft policy. It is more limited
in scope than the major medical form as it only provides
coverage for surgical procedures. Non-surgical treatment
is not covered. Examples of covered occurrences are
colic surgery, stitching to repair wounds, and arthroscopic
surgery. Surgical insurance costs $85 per horse per
year and offers a maximum amount of $5000. There
is a $50 per occurrence deductible. It is not available
for racehorses. Certain exclusions apply.
Loss
of Use Loss
of use is an endorsement which can be added to the full
mortality and theft policy. This will pay a percentage
of the horse's insured value if the horse becomes permanently
unfit to perform its stated use on the policy. The company
requires that major medical also be carried if loss
of use is purchased. To be eligible, the horse must
be between the ages of 3 and 12, valued between $25,000 and $500,000, and must pass a rigorous
veterinary evaluation. We recommend that loss of use
coverage be approved by the Company underwriter prior
to purchase of a new horse if this coverage is a consideration
in your insurance program. The coverage is available
for hunters, jumpers, dressage, cutting and reining horses only. Contact us for rates
and more information.
